A daily connection with your sense of place can be rewarding for one's well-being and happiness, and I believe architecture and design can be a means for self-discovery and personal development. I strive for authenticity in the work I do, and have developed my practice based on the three principles outlined below.
PHILOSOPHY
Nature is my primary inspiration. While built forms can be beautiful by themselves, I believe buildings should simply highlight the natural qualities of a place. Simplicity is the goal, and while I have a minimalist ethos, I try to integrate a bold design gesture into each project.
history
As a native of the Santa Cruz Mountains, I have a deep connection with the nature and architecture of the Bay Area. My experience in Architecture, Woodworking, and Construction allows for a collaborative process where the design is heavily influenced by the process of fabrication, and the fabrication process becomes an essential part of the end product.
CRAFT
While simplicity is always the desired result in a design project, getting there is a complex process requiring immense attention to detail. Woodworking has provided me with the patience and diligence that is necessary to appreciate this detail. The goal in developing a craft was to marry the authenticity of craft with the design process to develop a unique collaborative approach.
services
As both a licensed architect (C-35698) and a licensed general contractor (#1065578), I can guide owners towards a cohesive end with clear understandings of cost, schedule, and quality throughout the process. My flat fee is broken into 5 phases: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Permitting, and Construction Administration.
